The Bailey School Kids series, books 62, 59, 58, 60

The Bailey School Kids series by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thorton Jones

A/N: Because of the length of the series, there will be ongoing mini summaries of the books.

A/N#2: Starting here, the order of the books gets messed up. I had inter-library loaned most of these books and my wonderful librarian told me I needed to return them because of how overdue they were. I probably could have just interlibrary loaned them again so I could keep the write ups going in order, but that didn’t really occur to me at the time.

Mrs. Jeepers on Vampire Island! Super Special #6 (62)

The kids are headed for Discovery Island, but their ship veers off-course and they make it to Vampire Island. Will the Coast Guard get to them in time to rescue them before the island’s vampire inhabitants get them? This story has three different endings to choose from.

Mrs. Jeepers’ Secret Cave! Super Special #3 (59)

The children decide to go spelunking, or cave exploring, and are not pleased with the knowledge that their vampire teacher will be leading them.

Mrs. Jeepers’ Batty Vacation! Super Special #2 (58)

Howie’s dad takes the kids with him on a trip to Transylvania and their teacher, Mrs. Jeepers, is also traveling there for a family reunion. Will the kids survive staying in her family’s castle or be turned into vampires?

Mrs. Jeepers in Outer Space! Super Special #4 (60)

The kids are going to BLAST Camp! But why is Mrs. Jeepers becoming obsessive about the technology and trying to learn how it works? Is she trying to reach vampire in outer space?

Books 1-4 Summaries:

New teacher from Transylvania who is allergic to garlic…

Werewolves Don’t Go To Summer Camp (2)

Very hairy camp counselor who likes his meat very rare, but is allergic to wolfsbane and mistletoe…

Santa Claus Doesn’t Mop Floors (3)

New janitor…his eyes twinkle, beard as white as snow, shakes when he laughs, always making notes about how the children are behaving…

Leprechauns Don’t Play Basketball (4)

O’Grady likes to play tricks and always carries a bag of jewels around…

Opinion:

I had read some of these when I was in elementary school, and found some of them when I was browsing through a used book store. I researched the series (over 60 books in total!) and have started inter-library loaning them. One thing I really like about this series is at the end, there is never definitive answer on whether or not Mrs. Jeepers really is a vampire; O’Grady really is a Leprechaun, etc. It’s a fun, quick series that gives me a little bit of escape from my graduate textbooks!
