I like to decorate my journal and write around the pretty stickers and washi tape. By decorating my journal, it’s doubling as a sticker book.

I decided to film a short Plant Roll Call video and show off all my edible plants! I’m very proud of these plants and that I’ve been able to keep them alive and produce food from them!

Husband and I consider ourselves Urban Homesteaders, even thought we don’t have acreage or a farm or animals. We’re also in the early stages of this journey and hope to add more garden space and edible plants over the next couple of years.

This year is the three year anniversary of my first YouTube channel: TalesFromAPolkCountyGirl. The purpose of the channel was to compliment the various posts on this blog.

I’ve learned a lot in the last three years: time management, content management, audience interest, etc. It was because of YouTube I earned my first passive income payment (via Adsense), which was an exciting moment for me.

At the beginning of each year since starting my channel, I’ve posted a list of the Top 10 videos for the previous year. To commemorate this milestone, I’m going to share a list of the Top 10 Most Viewed Videos from the beginning of the channel. I’m very interested to see this list.

  1. Mead Flex Binder Collection Update (October 2015)
  2. New to Me: Chic Sparrow Wide CB
  3. Mead Flex Binder Product Review
  4. Resetting the Cash Envelopes
  5. 2018 Planner Set Up
  6. Chic Sparrow Dr. Jones B6 Regular Traveler’s Notebook
  7. Customizing a Flex Binder
  8. ZLYC Passport Traveler’s Notebook Set Up
  9. Bullet Journal Set Up July 2015
  10. Passion Planner March 2017 Flip Thru

Last week, I shared some of the fun I’d been having with my Nesco Food Dehydrator. I’ve been inspired by one of the Dehydrating Facebook groups I’m in.

A lady, in the Dehydrating for Rebels, dehydrated mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. She turned them into a fine powder using a coffee grinder. I thought that was brilliant!

In my previous post, I showed the mushrooms we dehydrated. We don’t have a coffee grinder at the moment, so we tried using our Ninja Express Chop to pulverize them….It didn’t work out so well. The mushrooms are now finely chopped, which worked out great when I made a large pot of Chicken Noodle Soup.

Anyways! I said I was inspired. Here are some of the mix ideas I’m thinking about putting together in the future:

Holy Trinity:

onions, celery, and bell peppers.

Mire Poix:

onions, carrots, and celery.

Flour-Alternative for Gravy:

white potatoes, sweet potatoes, and parsnips.

Soffrito:

onion, parsley, garlic, celery, and carrots.

And if all else fails, and I don’t create a single jar for each mix, I do individual jars of each component and make 1:1:1 ratios as needed.

When I made my chicken noodle soup, having powdered celery would have been helpful. If you have any other combinations, please leave them in the comments below.

At the beginning of 2017, I decided to try out the planner that lead me down the Planner Addict rabbit hole 3 years ago: the Passion Planner (PP). I printed off the Classic size (8.5” x 11”) from the website (after completing their social media requirement to get to the PDF), hole punched it, and put it in a Flex Binder.

I used this planner solidly for the first 4 ½ months of the year. What changed? I couldn’t handle lugging around the full-size planner anymore. Even with a backpack to carry stuff to and from work, I didn’t want to bring it out of the house. And that’s a major problem when it comes to using a planner.

In the meantime, I re-purposed some old planner inserts from another brand, and made my own planner–a more portable one. And in September, I decided to try the Compact size (printed off the whole month from the PDF), and sadly realized neither of the Passion Planner’s offered sizes worked for me.

But!!! Just because the sizes didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean I didn’t learn some valuable lessons from the planner. So what did I learn?

1. Brain Bombing / Mind Mapping is Awesome!

When I started using the Classic size 2017 Passion Planner, I waited a few days before doing my Passion Road Map. If you’re in any of the PP Facebook groups, this isn’t an unusual occurrence. Actually putting down on paper, which REAL deadlines, triggered something in me. Leading to…

2. Goals are Achievable

Since I was a child, 4 years old to be exact, I knew I wanted to publish a book. I’ve written about a dozen books in the last 15 years, but the novel I wrote in 2016 is the first one I’ve ever actively worked towards publication on. As of writing this post, I’ve completed my editing, the novel’s been alpha and beta read, and I’m querying publishers. The farthest I’ve ever gotten with one of my novels is typing it up and running spell check (I wrote the initial draft longhand). Wish me luck!

3. Self-care and Personal To Do’s are Important

I saw a meme or something on the internet once (maybe off Pinterest?) that said: You can’t refill everyone else’s cup, if you don’t take time to refill your own. I love the Personal To Do list on the PP weekly layout, and how Angelia’s (sp?) purpose for that we need to remember to do things for ourselves.

The saying “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy,” comes to mind as well. I’ve been making more of an effort to make sure I take my vitamins, do some yoga and basic exercises, journaling, writing, reading, and knitting. All things that help my physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

4. Time slots are optional!

Not literally. Every version of the planner has the time slots. But I saw a picture on the Passion Planner Facebook page where they showed how to use the daily columns for To Do lists, and ignore the time slots! I LOVE THAT!

5. Reflecting is a Wonderful Thing

I’m a fan of journaling prompts, especially ones that force you to look back over a period of time and gauge how you’ve grown as a person. I appreciate that there are reflection questions at the end of each month and the year, to help you focus on the positive and learn from the negative. Over the years, the reflection questions have changed, with the initial lists having a dozen questions or so, and current set ups have half that. Taking the time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished, learned, and would do differently in the future helps you to grow as a person.

6. What Works for Some, Doesn’t for Others

As I’ve started in previous posts and videos, I love the concept of the Passion Planner, but the sizes just don’t work for me. I love seeing how others use their PPs, decorated or not, to achieve their goals and all that. Maybe one day I’ll figure out how to print the PDF in a way that I still have the guts of a planner, but the size is more what I need it to be. OR Angelia may develop an in-between size! One can hope, right?
