Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott

Set during the Crusades, the Saxon heiress, Rowena, awaits the return of her banished lover. Between her guardian’s desire to maintain the royal Saxon bloodline via an arranged marriage, and several of Prince John’s “yes-men” vieing for her, all she can do is wait to know her fate.

I’ve been waiting to read this book for years and just now got around to it. I was frustrated with how slow the story was moving. If I reread this, I’ll go for the abridged version.
